This past week was my second week and I am running more long distance and the miles are feeling great. My joy from running is so real, and after a good run you feel *invincible*.
But sometimes, it can be tough to get going. I woke up one morning and didn’t have much planned for the day so the magnetism to my bed was REAL. I made it to my class, studied for a little bit, went home, dragging my feet the whole way. But I got a notification that I hadn’t ran yet that day and I was feeling guilty for telling myself I would run and not going. So, even though it was cold out, I put on my sneakers and a warm running jacket and got myself outside and running. Once I started running, everything was great and I came back feeling more energized and accomplished.
Another day, I was planning on running after classes, and since I was super busy all day, I didn’t take the time to make myself good food and I just ate trash foods. And the rest of the day, I felt like trash. That day I was going to run and go to barre after- I was proud of myself for not puking on the treadmill but I was more proud for not puking during barre. THAT IS NOT HOW YOUR TRAINING SHOULD FEEL. It was a little personal lesson that even on the days that you think you don’t have time to make a gourmet meal, that doesn’t mean you can cheat! There is a direct correlation between my diet and my training- if I eat well, I train well, plain and simple.
For anyone wondering about my diet, I am 100% plant-based. That means basically vegan without any processed foods. I stay away from dairy, meat, oil (as much as possible), and I stick to whole foods: lots of vegetables, grains, nuts, and fruit. Before anyone asks, yes I get enough protein and yes I get enough calcium and vitamins. I do not take any supplements. Many people think that just because you are training and running such long distances and you are burning so many calories that you can eat whatever you want, but that doesn’t usually work. (You don’t put regular gas in a Bentley!)
Next week is going to be tough being at home for break and not having the same amenities I have at school but I will be doing my best to stay on track and not lose my progress!
