Believe me. I live on Pinterest. It is basically my bible. So if it tells me I need a shower cap, water filter, dust pan, and a flashlight, I need to have it. Thankfully, as the youngest in my family to go to college, I was talked out of getting things like spackle for my walls (okay I never *really* believed I needed this but hey, whatever Pinterest says).
So that's where I come in. I'm gonna break it down for you.
1. School Supplies
Yes you need pencils and pens (definitely number two pencils for exams), yes you should probably have sticky notes and highlighters, and yes you definitely need notebooks and folders.
(The school store has all of this so don't fret if you realize you didn't buy what you needed)
You will also definitely need a planner, I’ll be posting more about mine later.
-two sets of twin XL sheets, one to have on your bed while the other is in the wash (PLEASE WASH YOUR SHEETS)
-a couple pillows, whatever is comfy for you
-a reading pillow, acts as a headboard
-clip fan for the end of your bed (if you like sleeping with a fan)
I've never seen anyone use those bed riser things, and I've yet to see someone use a sleeping bag, so leave those at home.
3. Food Stuff
-bottle opener (wine bottle opener too, you dont know how much time we spent on youtube trying to figure out how to get a cork out with a shoe-which doesn't work btw)
-microwave, this is something to talk to your roomie about so you can figure out who's buying, splitting, etc
-mini fridge, same as microwave
-a mug, or disposable if you learned your lesson
-the snack food you know you will eat. Don't load up on junky food and try to stick to healthy brain food. Fruit goes bad fast so eat that quick and don't buy a lot at a time!
-red solo cups for sharing, okay they don't need to be red but they're more fun if they are
-a can of soup for when you get sick!
4. Personal Things
This is like school supplies. You know what you use and you know what you don't. If you don't know what the hell toner is, don't buy it for school expecting to use it.
So get the basic toiletries, and don't forget
-nail file, maybe some nail polish
-bathrobe for the shower
Yes. Here is what I did and didn't need:
What I did need:
-cute clothes to go to class (tshirts, shorts, jeans, sweaters, etc...)
-cute clothes to go to parties
-jackets of varying weights
-socks, underwear, etc (again, duh)
-accessories (jewelry, belts, etc)
what I didn't need:
-if you bought something and have only worn it once, leave it home.
-more than one business formal outfit
-more than two sweatshirts and two pairs of sweats, they're so bulky you'll never find the space for them (also watch the number of sweaters)
6. Literally Everything Else
-command hooks and assorted things to hang pictures with
-decorations (pictures, posters, tapestry, etc)
-lint roller, mini sewing kit
-a rug (if your room isn't carpeted, wait until you're at school to buy this)
-laundry detergent, dryer sheets, etc
-bandaids, other first aid stuff, again, you know what you use
Take a deep breath and restrain yourself at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
Did I forget anything? Let me know in the comments!
